Kharkiv is the 2nd largest city in Ukraine with a population of about 1.4 million people. Kharkiv was actually the capital of the Ukraine region of the Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR) from 1917-1934.

Kharkiv is a major cultural, scientific, educational, transport and industrial centre of Ukraine, with 60 scientific institutes, 30 establishments of higher education, 6 museums, 7 theatres and 80 libraries.

Kharkiv has a metro system with some 29 stops allowing for easy transport around the city.

The city, located in the northeast part of Ukraine, is served by an international airport. Kharkiv was one of the host cities of the 2012 Euro soccer tournament.

"Things to Do"/Sightseeing Attractions in Kharkiv

Kharkiv is a city of large parks and squares – in fact Freedom Square is considered one of the largest Squares in all of Europe. Concerts, festivals, and rallys take place here quite often.

Across the Square is the north entrance to Shevchenko Park. Here you can find numerous cafes, restaurants and things for the children including a zoo-park. The Nemo Dolphinarium (and Hotel) can also be found in the back end of the park.

Traversing northward about a kilometer is Gorky Park, a park filled with rides and games for children.

Kharkiv is also home of several cultural options including Kharkiv State Academic Opera & Ballet Theatre , Alexander Pushkin Academic Russian Drama Theatre and the Kharkiv Historical Museum (at Constitution Square).

Kharkiv offers several places for the photographer in you including the Mirror Stream fountain, Assumption Cathedral and Pokrovsky Cathedral.

Kharkiv Nightlife & Entertainment

Bolero, Radmir, and Misto all have reached legend status in Kharkiv for their staying power, having served the locals for years and years. These discos still bring in big crowds on weekends. However, please note they are located quite a way from the city centre. Our upcoming videos will help you decide which one is worthy of your time and (taxi) money to get there.

Sky Lounge, Kompas Club, and Panorama are trendy lounges that are relatively new additions to Kharkiv and definitely also worth checking out. For those beer-lovers visiting Kharkov, check out Patrick Pub (2 locations) or Shato brewhouse, located at Freedom Square.

Dining In Kharkiv

Pushka, Koritza, Tanuki and Sharikoff are recommended restaurants all within walking distance of Constitution Square. Around Freedom Square are several other options for romantic dining including Yakatoria, Terem, Steakhouse Chili.

Kharkiv has options for those on a tight budget or looking for a quick lunch. Puzata Hata has a prime location overlooking Constitution Square as does FreshLine. Potato Hata is a popular place just behind Freedom Square. McDonald's has a very popular spot on Pushkinska street near the University.
